This live session provides a focused, case-based review of alcohol use disorder and its management in acute care and hospital settings, emphasizing high-yield concepts for board preparation and clinical practice.

What This Includes
• Alcohol epidemiology, screening, and diagnostic approaches in clinical care
• Recognition of alcohol-related presentations in emergency and inpatient settings as high-risk intervention opportunities
• Evidence-based assessment and management of alcohol withdrawal, including use of CIWA-Ar and PAWSS
• Pharmacologic treatment strategies for alcohol withdrawal, including benzodiazepines, phenobarbital, and adjunctive therapies
• Medications for alcohol use disorder, including initiation during hospitalization and transition to outpatient care
• Integration of addiction treatment into medical settings, including coordinated follow-up and multidisciplinary care models

Ilan Z. Remler, MD

Dr. Remler is an addiction medicine physician at Kaiser Permanente Northern California, where he serves as Program Director of the Addiction Medicine Fellowship. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine.

He is actively involved in clinical care and education in addiction medicine, with experience supporting patients across hospital and clinical settings.
