Hour One: CCC Operations in Addiction Medicine Fellowships: Making Defensible Decisions and Closing the Feedback Loop

Clinical Competency Committees (CCC) are central to assessment and advancement decisions in Addiction Medicine fellowships. This session will explore structuring CCC operations, synthesizing assessment data, selecting and justifying milestone levels, and translating committee decisions into meaningful guidance for fellows.

Session Objectives:

Implement a practical CCC structure aligned with ACGME expectations.
Synthesize multiple assessment inputs to select and justify Addiction Medicine Milestones levels.
Translate CCC decisions into actionable post-CCC plans, including communication to fellows and linking them to development goals.

Hour Two: Professionalism in Addiction Medicine: Boundary Setting and Teaching Professional Conduct in ACGME Fellowships

Professionalism is a foundational yet challenging competency to teach, model, assess, and provide feedback on within Addiction Medicine training programs. This session will explore boundary setting, team dynamics, learner conduct, and practical approaches to fostering professionalism in fellowship training environments.

Session Objectives:

Identify common professionalism challenges, including boundary considerations and interprofessional team interactions.
Describe approaches for modeling, teaching, and reinforcing professional behavior.
Translate observed behaviors into milestone-aligned assessments and constructive feedback.

Hour One: CCC Operations in Addiction Medicine Fellowships Presenters

Sami Hamdan, MD MPH is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of General Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and a member of the Yale Program in Addiction Medicine. He completed fellowship training in Addiction Medicine at Yale and is actively involved in medical education, trainee assessment, and Clinical Competence Committee leadership. His interests include addiction medicine, chronic pain management, and learner development.

Jeanette M. Tetrault, MD FACP FASAM is Professor of Medicine and of Epidemiology at Yale School of Medicine, where she serves as Program Director of the Addiction Medicine Fellowship and Associate Director for Education and Training in the Program in Addiction Medicine. A nationally recognized clinician educator, her work focuses on addiction medicine education, curriculum development, and workforce development. She is a past President of ACAAM and co-editor of ASAM's Principles of Addiction Medicine.

Hour Two: Professional in Addiction Medicine Presenters

Neera Gupta, MD is a psychiatrist at MetroHealth and Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She serves as Program Director of the Addiction Medicine Fellowship and plays a leadership role in MetroHealth's Addiction Consult Service and outpatient addiction treatment programs. Her clinical interests include addiction medicine and the care of individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Christina Antenucci, MD is an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and a faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine at MetroHealth. She serves as Associate Program Director for the Addiction Medicine Fellowship and Assistant Program Director of Medication Assisted Treatment. Her areas of focus include integrated primary care, outpatient addiction treatment, and addiction medicine education.
